The Mathes wine cellars in Wormeldange were founded by Jean-Pierre Mathes in 1907. In 1949, Marcel Mathes joined the business after studying viticulture in Geisenheim. Under Marcel Mathes's leadership, the estate expanded and, alongside its own production, he developed a wide range of foreign wines and spirits. The Mathes estate has been run by Paule and Jean-Paul Hoffmann Mathes since 2005. The estate has 8 ha of vines, most of which are planted with Riesling (70%). The rest of the vineyard is divided among other noble grape varieties such as Auxerrois, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
